Sandalwood oil steam-distilled from Santalum album heartwood. The species is the reference sandalwood: soft, creamy, milky-woody and almost without sharp edges, with a tenacity measured in days rather than hours.
The character comes principally from alpha- and beta-santalol, and the ratio between them is the standard quality measure. Trees require decades to develop usable heartwood, which is the reason both for the price and for the state-level cultivation and movement controls that apply in India.
We list Santalum album only where cultivation and transit documentation is available. Material without it is not listed, regardless of price.

Creamy, milky and soft-woody with a faint lactonic sweetness and no sharpness. Extremely tenacious and highly diffusive at low inclusion. A classic base and fixative.
