Saffron stigmas hand-picked and dried, from the Taliouine region of southern Morocco. Roughly 150,000 flowers are required per kilogram of dried stigma, all picked by hand in a season lasting a few weeks.

In perfumery, saffron contributes a leathery, honeyed, faintly medicinal warmth with a distinctive metallic edge — quite different from its culinary reading. It is central to traditional attar and mukhallat work.

Supplied as whole dried stigmas. Powdered saffron is not offered, because powder is the form in which adulteration is easiest and hardest to detect.

Why don't you sell powdered saffron?
Because powder is the form in which adulteration is easiest and hardest to detect. Whole stigmas can be assessed visually and by float test; powder cannot. If you need powder, we would rather you grind whole stigma yourself than buy it pre-ground from anyone.
